Risks

Risks (2024)

Yearly we conduct a comprehensive risk assessment by country and supplier. The risks are prioritized. Action plans for improvement are drawn up in consultation with the parties involved.

Regions

The majority of our purchases are made from business partners based in:

  • Faisalabad (Pakistan)
  • Karachi (Pakistan)
  • Denizli (Turkey)
  • China
  • India

Prioritization of the identified risks

Bamatex identified these risks not only based on literature, training and audit reports, but also through management visits to our suppliers on site and cooperation with local organizations. These sources ensure that the theoretically acquired knowledge was confirmed and deepened.
Specifically:

  • Bamatex gave its commitment to SOS Children's Villages Pakistan. This organization ensures that children receive the necessary housing and education. In this way, this organization ensures the future of these children and prevents them from entering the labor market too early.
  • Our local agent frequently interacts with employees of our suppliers. This information helps us to strengthen our partnership with our suppliers.
  • In cooperation with Amfori, Bamatex rolled out “Speak for Change” among its Turkish suppliers. We are looking forward to the further rollout of this program.

Risk 1: Vulnerable groups:

We define the following groups as vulnerable in the regions where Bamatex operates.

1. Women:

  • Gender Equality
  • Health and Safety

2. Children and young workers:

      • Pakistan: religious minorities

Measurements to improve social impact: Working together with selected business partners. Selection is based on various criteria (supplier risk analysis- recognized certifications - frequent audits by recognized bodies and local agents - visits to our business partners by Bamatex management, cooperation with local organizations, etc.)

Goal: Creating an inclusive and safe working environment for all vulnerable groups

Risk 2: Fair wages

Measurements to improve social impact
  1. accurately identify analysis of wage gap relative to living wages.
  2. initiate a process to gradually close this wage gap and achieve a living wage
Goal: workers and their families have a decent standard of living

Risk 3: Worker involvement:

Measurements to improve social impact:
  1. action plan per supplier on creating and implementating a grievance procedure
  2. Collaboration with Amfori Speak For Change campaign for our business partners based in Turkey.
Objective: increased participation for better working environment in terms of health and well-being, environment and productivity

Risk 4 : Water consumption

We measure evolution

Together with our suppliers, we try to chart the evolution of our efforts. In this way, we monitor a number of KPIs relating to listed risks. Since 2022, together with our largest suppliers, we have been monitoring evolutions related to these risks:

  • the number of female management members
  • ratio wages paid vs legal vs living wages
  • complaints handled
  • environmental risks: number of participations in monitoring process and audits facilitated by Amfori
